T.T Gosho-Minami is a total work of art set within a restored Kyoto machiya townhouse with approximately 150 years of history. Guided by the philosophy and aesthetic vision inherited from Taiga Takahashi, it proposes a way of living imbued with Japanese aesthetics through clothing, gardens, tea, craft, and art.
The interior features fusuma sliding panels covered with karakami paper by Kyoto-based Kamisoe, tatami mats edged with Nishijin textiles by Kyoto-based Hosoo, and glass lighting by glass artist Satoshi Sato. Taking Taiga Takahashi’s drapery works as their motif, craftspeople and artists have reinterpreted them through their respective materials and techniques, bringing these new expressions into the space.
Gardens by Chisao Shigemori, Director of the Mirei Shigemori Garden Research Institute, and sculptures by Taiga Takahashi and Isamu Noguchi are in dialogue with the townhouse. A separate building houses the tearoom Sabi, which offers a kaiseki-style course of tea and sweets overseen by Kyoto’s Okashimaru.
By layering new expressions by craftspeople and artists within this historic building, T.T Gosho-Minami creates a place where tradition and contemporary sensibilities meet.
